'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owls Boss Targets Seven More Wins

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine insists seven more wins in the Championship will be enough to see the Owls to safety this season.

The Owls moved five points clear of the relegation zone yesterday with a crucial 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle at Hillsborough.

It was Irvine's fourth victory in five games since taking charge of Wednesday, and his fourth 2-1 success to boot.

And it was what the Scot described as an 'ugly win', something which he'd gladly take every week between now and the end of the campaign to see Wednesday to safety.

'If it takes winning ugly to stay in this division, I will take it. We won and that is the most important thing,' he told the official SWFC website.

'We need at least seven more wins and while we would like to be playing exciting, attractive football in the long term, we have to do what's necessary in the short term.

'I'll take seven more horrible wins if that's what it will take to keep out of trouble.'

Argyle remain in the thick of relegation trouble following the defeat.

But Pilgrims boss Paul Mariner felt his men deserved something from the clash.

'As the away coach, I think we deserved something from the game,' he told the official Argyle website.

'We didn't play as well as this at Cardiff and at Middlesbrough and won, and didn't get anything today.

'We're not getting carried away with anything. We know this is going to be a long slog.'
