Owls Await Transfer Deadline

It's that day again, transfer deadline day, and although Owls boss Alan Irvine isn't expecting too many phone calls, he won't be happy until 5pm.

The end of the January transfer window is today at 5pm, with all permanent deals for players wanting to change clubs before the end of the season needing to be complete.

Irvine will no doubt be wary that some calls could come into his Middlewood Road office as clubs look to strengthen for any respective promotion or relegation push.

Lee Grant, Marcus Tudgay and Akpo Sodje are the only players linked with any kind of moves away from Hillsborough.

Striker Sodje, used as a substitute in the Owls' 2-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle at the weekend, is the most likely to leave, if anyone is to move on.

Sodje enjoyed a loan spell at Charlton Athletic recently and it's thought the Addicks are keen to take the former Port Vale man permanently, although they could wait until the end of the season.

Grant and Tudgay have both been linked with former boss Brian Laws at Premier League side Burnley, but both are expected to remain Wednesday players.

Coming in? Well, it's pretty quiet on that front, and we're not expecting any new players winging their way in to S6 before 5pm.

Irvine has already concluded loan deals for Luke Varney and Tom Soares and insists there's no money to bring in fresh faces unless players move out.

No doubt it'll be an exciting day in the transfer market, but probably not at Wednesday.

Of course, if there is any news, it'll be right here on Vital Sheffield Wednesday.
