Irvine Up For Manager Award

It's the end of a superb month of football for Wednesday and that means one thing - boss Alan Irvine surely up for the Championship Manager of the Month award.

The four candidates for the award are set to be named this week, and Irvine must surely be part of that line-up after guiding Wednesday to a superb start to the new year.

The Scot has bagged four wins from a possible five since taking charge at Hillsborough earlier this month, lifting Wednesday out of the relegation spots.

And not just that, but he's helped the Owls to push themselves five points clear of the relegation places, too.

With the Owls' only defeat under Irvine coming at Scunthorpe United last week, the Owls boss must be in with a shot of the award, whether he wants it or not.

We all know the 'curse' of the Manager of the Month award, with the winners more often than not going on to lose their next game.

But to win it would put the icing on the cake for chairman Lee Strafford, who waited patiently before appointing his men - it can be seen, so far, as the correct appointment.

Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies is Irvine's main opponent for the gong, having also lost just one of his games in January, the 1-0 defeat at Derby County on Saturday.

Keep visiting Vital Sheffield Wednesday to see if Irvine gets nominated for the award.
