'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Freescoring Owls Swoop By Magpies

New Sheffield Wednesday Ladies manager Liam Kelly enjoyed a superb start to life at S6 as the Owls saw off Beighton Magpies 17-0 to progress in the County Cup.

Rachel Skeemer and debutant Kerry Smith got the Owls off to a superb start with a brace apiece to see Wednesday into a commanding 4-0 lead early on.

The Owls were in full control at half-time but, not content with their convincing lead, they didn't take their foot off the gas on the restart.

Skeemer completed her hat-trick on the resumption before Beth Gingell and Emily Scott improved the rout shortly after.

Wednesday continued to pepper the Beightoun goal and got their just rewards with goals galore to wrap up a comfortable progression in the competition.

Following the victory, Kelly said: 'This result was for every player, every staff member and more importantly Sheffield Wednesday.

'From start to finish the players showed great professionalism, attitude, quality, winning mentality and desire. The foundations have been laid now for the rest of our season, and the pleasing thing long term is we now realise this is not about just 11 players, it's about a group, a family of people who are happy in their work and all aiming towards the same aims.'
