Owls Sign PNE's Nolan

Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has raided his former club Preston by bringing international defender Eddie Nolan to Hillsborough on loan until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland defender will remain at Wednesday for the remainder of the Championship season after arriving on an emergency loan deal from Deepdale.

The 21-year-old is expected to go straight into the Wednesday squad for the crunch relegation battle against Ipswich Town at S6 tomorrow.

The youngster was signed by Irvine for Preston at in January 2009 after initially impressing at the Lancashire club on a loan deal from Blackburn Rovers.

Nolan has represent the Republic of Ireland at every age group up to full international level, making three appearances.

He's a versatile defender, having played across the back four for North End, and has also been allowed to play against PNE this season, hinting a permanent deal could be in line.

looks like the boy has potential, Irvine obviously likes him. a bit surprised that PNE have let him out on loan for the rest of the season as he seems to be a fairly important part of their squad
