Carson Heaps Praise On Owls

Former Owls loanee 'keeper Scott Carson heaped praise on the Owls as he set off to the pre-World Cup training camp in Portugal with the England squad.

The Liverpool stopper is on standy-by should Paul Robinson, David James or Robert Green become unavailable for the World Cup finals in Germany this summer, and pointed to his stay at Hillsborough for the reason of his success.

He told the Sheffield Star: 'People have asked me if I'm disappointed not to be in the first three. But if I'd not gone to Wednesday for those nine games I never would have been fourth in line; I'm happy. If somebody gets injured, or something, then you never know - not that I'd wish that on anybody.'

Carson joined the Owls in March and helped the club avoid a swift return to League One. Wednesday only lost one game in their final nine while the former Leeds United 'keeper was between the sticks.

England goalkeeping coach Ray Clemence came to watch Carson on a number of occassions while at S6, and Carson's form helped him secure the chance to be going to Germany with the full England squad

Owls boss Paul Sturrock is still chasing the services of Carson for the forthcoming season. It's thought Sturrock wants to bring him in on loan for the season, with Jose Reina and Jerzy Dudek still ahead of him in the pecking order at Liverpool.

Carson continued: 'There was a bit of pressure on at the time I first went to Wednesday. I enjoyed it, and I hope people think I did a decent job. The club should be in the Premiership, never mind the Champion-ship. Hopefully it will be a better season next season.'

Paul Sturrock is one of the favourites to take over from Tony Pullis is he leaves Plymouth for Stoke

Sturrock would never go back to Plymouth. Why would he? He's already said the only club he would ever leave for is his former club Dundee United, and even that would be after he's brought years of stability to hillsborough!

no chance. no offence but why on earth would he go back to Plymouth? they have nothing going for them whatsoever. apart from his being a big success and leaving on good terms so what? thats the story for loads of managers. and he's been on record saying the only club he would leave for is Plymouth.
