Palm D'Or! Academy Starlet On The Up!

The inclusion of Liam Palmer in Sheffield Wednesday's match day squad for the visit of Ipswich may have come as a surprise to some people, but not to us here at Vital.

The youngster from Worksop has certainly impressed me in the past and he must've caught the eye of Alan Irvine to earn a promotion to the first-team squad.

Palmer has been with the club since a young age and has earned praise from Academy manager Sean McAuley in the past, earning a call-up under McAuley's temporary stint as caretaker manager.

Although Palmer (no relation to Carlton) didn't get onto the field of play, he has all the attributes of a good player.

Part of the 'best we've ever had' generation, Palmer usually plays in the gap between the midfield and the front two where his passing abilities and dribbling can be maximised.

Vadaine Oliver and Nathan Modest are both second year scholars too and with Modest receiving a national nomination for Academy Player of the Year earlier on this month, the Owls could have three top prospects on their hands.

Palmer, alongside Modest and Oliver is also eligible for Jamaica despite being English-born but decisions on international futures are still a way-off for the trio.

Although it's been a depressing week for the Owls, who slumped to home defeats, the likes of Palmer do offer a glimmer of hope for the future.
