Owls' USA Defender Plots England Upset

Wednesday's American defender Frank Simek has bigged up England's chances at the forthcoming World Cup - but insists his USA side can upset Fabio Capello's men in South Africa.

The right-back received a shock call-up up for the USA squad to take on Holland in Amsterdam in a pre-tournament friendly fixture next week.

He'll be hoping his performances in the squad will help him secure a place for the prestigious World Cup tournament in South Africa this summer.

The USA face England in their first group match in the competition and although Simek backs England with a chance to win the World Cup, he's confident his team mates can cause an upset in their opening match.

He told 'A Different League' that: 'They (England) are in with a great shot and if they can perform to their strengths then they should be amongst the favourites to win.'

But also went on to say that: 'Hopefully we can beat England, it would be an upset and an amazing victory but things never go as they say on paper so nothing is certain yet.'

The former Arsenal youth product has been ravaged by injury over the last few season's but has forced his way back into the Owls first team this season.

He'll be hoping his performances in the Blue and White, as well as with the USA national squad next week, will give him a great chance of participating in the World Cup.
