Owls Set To Unveil Bougherra

Owls boss Paul Sturrock is set to complete a £300,000 move to bring highly-rated former Crewe Alexandra defender Madjid Bougherra to Hillsborough, subject to a medical.

As reported on Vital Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the week, Bougherra's French club Gueugnon are keen to sell the hot prospect to raise funds for the club who are experiencing finincial difficulties.

The 23-year-old Algerian centre-back is now set to put pen to paper on a deal with the Owls, despite interest from a number of other Premiership and Championship clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United.

Bougherra arrived in England for a loan spell with Crewe Alexandra, but his top form for the Railywayman couldn't help them avoid relegation to League One. He made 11 appearances for the Gresty Road side.

The transfer of Bougherra will be the second summer signing for Owls boss Paul Sturrock - who is hoping to build his new look squad sooner rather than later.

Sturrock is still looking to secure a season-long loan deal for Liverpool 'keeper Scott Carson. But the future of former Owls loanee Mikkel Bischoff will be thrown in to doubt now Bougherra looks set to put pen to paper.

Just been officially announced! Even though Ive only seen him play once this is a top signing. Now with him, Woody, Cocko and Bullen at the back we shouldnt be short at the back this season!
welshyowl
i wouldnt judge him yet til he settels in and plays a few games.

Just what I was thinking. Everyone's getting a bit carried away! I'm sure he'll be a decent signing for us though.

He'll have a good song though... "Bou-ghe-rra.. woh oh oh oh" - that always helps :-)

think he will be a top player because he is quick, strong and young. Now i feel confident if cocko was toget injured because w can have some youth and pace at the back in this lad and woody, bullen is the 2nd goalie this season!
