'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owls Await JJ Verdict

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine will be keeping everything crossed in the hope that star player Jermaine Johnson's injury setback doesn't rule him out for the rest of the season.

The jet-heeled winger had to come off just nine minutes into the Owls' clash at Preston North End last night with a hamstring injury.

It wasn't the same hamstring injury which ruled him out of most of the games in February but the damage could be just as bad.

Wednesday will assess the damage to their winger ahead of this weekend's home clash against Derby County.

'The loss of Jermaine Johnson early on was probably a psychological blow for our players because he has been excellent for us in recent games,' Irvine told the official SWFC website.

'He is a real threat for us and gives us a cutting edge but you have to cope in those circumstances.'

It will give Michael Gray, Tom Soares and Etienne Esajas the chance to step up and fill the boots of JJ while he's out injured.

Keep checking Vital Sheffield Wednesday for all the latest updates on JJ's injury.
