Irvine: We Could Have Won

Owls boss Alan Irvine was left disappointed that his men couldn't convert their chances in yesterday's stalemate at Hillsborough against Derby County.

Good chances came and went for Tommy Miller, Francis Jeffers and Richard Hinds as neither side managed to find the back of the net in a mainly scrappy affair at S6 against the Rams.

And although it stretches Wednesday's unbeaten run to three games, Irvine felt it was a chance for three points missed.

'I feel that we desperately need some wins and this was not a foregone conclusion by any means but I thought we certainly had enough good chances to win the game,' he told the official SWFC website.

'Derby had their share of it in the first half but in the second half I thought we dominated in terms of possession. We had some good chances in dangerous territory but we didn't take them and that's disappointing.'

One plus Irvine could take from the game was the fact that Wednesday kept their second clean sheet in three outings.

He said: 'The plus side is that we didn't concede again and if we can keep that up we have a very good chance between now and the end of the season.'

Irvine will be hoping his men have their shooting boots on when Watford visit South Yorkshire on Wednesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

2 or 3 years ago we would have sold clarke to Southend except they couldn't afford him. Now he is considered our main goal threat. Its difficult to see where the goals are coming from for us to stay up. it doesn't help that this season the points tally will be high. gonna be very close. irvine doing a good job but can't see 3 worse teams in the league. Scunny got peteborough at home. We need someone to hit a purple patch with the goals. But who?
