Mixed Fortunes For Owls
A big night of Championship action last night provided mixed fortunes for Wednesday as they had to watch on in their battle against relegation.
With Alan Irvine and his men having to wait until tonight for their crack at three points against fellow strugglers Watford, the Owls could only look on at last night's matches including their relegation rivals.
Wednesday could have found themselves back in the bottom three last night had Crystal Palace got anything from their tough encounter at Nottingham Forest.
But Billy Davies' promotion-chasing side put the Eagles to the sword with a 2-0 success to keep Palace in the relegation spots.
It was a good result from Wednesday's point of view, but Plymouth Argyle's victory at Ipswich Town certainly wasn't.
The three points for the Pilgrims pull them to within just three points of Wednesday after they were seemingly doomed to League 1 football not so many weeks ago.
It goes keep the Tractor Boys in the mix though, even though they are looking all-but safe.
Scunthorpe United pulled four points clear of the Owls with a thumping 4-0 win over rock-bottom Peterborough, to all-but seal the Posh's fate this term.
QPR and Derby could only share the spoils in their match as they remain in relegation trouble.
Tonight's clash with Watford was a crucial one no matter what happened last night, but victory against the Hornets could lift Wednesday four points clear of relegation trouble.
