'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wednesday Miss Out On Loan Addition

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has revealed that he tried to bolster his squad with a loan player yesterday but couldn't find the right man.

Irvine spent much of deadline day, yesterday, in his office frantically making phone calls to try and improve his squad for the 'business end of the season'.

But he didn't even get beyond the general enquiries stage which teams not prepared to let players go at this stage of the season, or the available players not fitting into the Owls' wage budget.

It's thought Irvine was looking for a midfielder to add to his squad following an injury set-back to Tommy Miller this week, while Jermaine Johnson and Sean McAllister are also sidelined.

Irivne told the Sheffield Star: 'I would have liked to get someone in. I tried to do all the spadework so that I could have given the information to the board.'

But nothing materialised and that means he'll have to make do with the current squad that's available to him to help Wednesday stay in the Championship this season.
