Owls McPhail Deal Dead
Owls boss Paul Sturrock has ruled out a summer swoop for highly-rated Barnsley midfielder Stephen McPhail amid reports the former Leeds man was on the verge of moving to S6.
Sturrock has said he's due for talks with a potential third signing of the summer this week - and talk was of McPhail being the man to solve the Owls' midfield problems should Barnsley fail in the League On play-off final on Sunday.
Sturrock told BBC Sport: 'I think he is a good player but I just need a different type of midfielder.'
The 26-year-old former Leeds United, Millwall and Nottingham Forest midfielder has played a key part in the Reds success story this season and may feature against the Owls in the Championship next season should Barnsley beat Swansea City in the League One play-off final on Sunday.
The Irishman has made 66 appearances for the Reds since moving to Oakwell in the summer of 2004 on a free transfer. He made his name in the Premiership with Leeds United but was moved on as part of the Elland Road clubs cost-cutting. He's also been on loan at Millwall and Nottingham Forest.
