Owls Close In On Carson

Owls boss Paul Sturrock is close to wrapping up a deal to bring Liverpool 'keeper Scott Carson to Hillsborough on a season-long loan later this week.

Sturrock told the official SWFC site he was hoping to secure his third signing of the summer later this week - and Carson is said to be the man in talks with the Owls boss.

The former Leeds United stopper spent two months between the sticks at Hillsborough last season and played a major part in the Owls survival in the Championship. Wednesday lost just once during Carson's stay at the club.

Wednesday may face competition from Championship rivals Cardiff City after they expressed an interest in Carson last week.

Carson, who was called up to to the England squad as standby goalkeeper for this summer's World Cup Finals in Germany, is currently third choice at Anfield behind Jose Reina and Jerzy Dudek.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez wants to see Carson gain some much needed first team experience at Championship level before breaking into the first team at the Merseyside club.

Would be the signing of the season in my opinion. And who knows, if we do well we could end up signing a great prospect. The defence should surely be one of the better in the division.

I just hope we go out our way for him as much as we did when he was on loan, and Im pretty sure he'll choose us over anyone else if so.
