Owls Target Opts For Bluebirds

Owls target Kevin McNaughton has agreed a deal to join Championship rivals Cardiff City when his contract expires on July 1 from Aberdeen.

Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock announced the highly-rated defender was on his list of potential targets, but the signing of Madjid Bougherra last week quietened the speculation.

The 23-year-old will move to Ninian Park on July 1 when his contract with the SPL side expires.

Cardiff owner Sam Hammam told the official Cardiff City website: 'This should be a clear sign of our intentions this summer, we will have an aggressive recruitment drive. We are targeting a top-six finish next season and I will do anything I can to facilitate that. I have the experience to do it, and [manager] Dave Jones is the best man to make it happen.'

McNaughton revealed he turned down a number of offers from other clubs, but didn't mention the Owls.

I hope we didn't offer this guy wages and get beat by Cardiff. They seem to be after the same players we are, and if so it looks like they'll beat our wages on each one!
