Irvine Keen To Keep Duo

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine wants to keep Lee Grant and Marcus Tudgay for the Owls' League One campaign - and insists he won't sell them on the cheap.

The duo, arguably Wednesday's biggest assets in playing staff, have been tipped for a move away from Hillsborough following relegation to League One.

But, although Irvine insists he can't guarantee them both being in the famous blue and white stripes next season, the Owls boss is keen for them both to be part of Wednesday's bid to bounce straight back to the Championship.

'It's understandable that people are talking about Marcus and Lee, but they both have long contracts and are on good wages. We're not going to sell them on the cheap,' he told the Sheffield Star.

'I can't say they definitely won't go, because if somebody comes in and blows us away with an offer and they want to go there's probably nothing I can do about it.'

Tudgay was linked with a move to Burnley last season before penning a new deal at S6 and has recently been linked with a switch to Leicester City.

Goalkeeper Grant, Wednesday's player of the year, has also been linked with moves away from Hillsborough to clubs including Birmingham City.

Both are expected to be linked with more moves as the close season progresses but will be part of Irvine's plans until a 'good' offer comes in for either of them.

Irvine is making the right noises about Tudgay and Grant, but I would be absolutely gobsmacked if either player is still here come the new season. Hopefully he is warning other clubs that we no longer sell players on the cheap, ala Whelan etc.

retfordowl - completely right, tudders has looked like he wants to be elsewhere all season. can't see hm being any happier in league 1!. Really hope grant stays, but can't see it. hopefully we'll get 3mill+ for him if he goes

any sort of decent bid for tudgay and I would let him go. he is not a goal scoring striker and if he stays he will prevent us from playing with 2 out and out strikers like has been the case this season. he does not take up the positions a genuine striker would when on the attack hence why he rarely scores

Well done Irvine don't sell Tudgay until we get an offer of at least 100k lol. Seriously he has to be our most disappointing player of the season. Remember how much vitriol was thrown at Purse at the beginning of the season? At least he turned it around with some good performances but Tudgay has had a shocking season.

Can't see Tudgay fetching more than 500K to be honest. And probably about 2 mil for Grant.

I think people are being a bit harsh with Tudgay. I agree he's not had a great season but all this "he doesn't want to be here" stuff is complete garbage. His work rate is always there for people to see - a lot more so than other players within the starting eleven in my opinion. Maybe it is time to cash in on him but I've got no ill-feelings towards him at all.
Carbone's Padawan
i have no ill feelings and i don't doubt his work ethic but my point is simply that he isn't a centre forward
Hirsty's Shinpads
yeah fair enough shinpads.
Carbone's Padawan
Tudders turned down the Prem for us and score in the derbies, so has to be given respect. Wasn't on his own in having a bad season.
