Owls Chairman Strafford Resigns

Owls Chairman Strafford Resigns

Wednesday chairman Lee Strafford has resigned from his position at Hillsborough with immediate effect.

Wednesdayite Strafford has been searching for investment into the club since his arrival.

But Wednesday have announced that former manager Howard Wilkinson will take over as interim chairman until the start of next season in August.

Wilkinson has been acting as technical advisor to the Wednesday board over the last year and has stepped up to work as interim chairman to aid in the club's restructuring over the summer.

Wilkinson said: 'I would like to thank Lee for all his work over the past 18 months. He is a true fan of Sheffield Wednesday and his efforts towards rebuilding this club should not be forgotten.

'It is an honour for me to become Chairman, albeit I stress that this will only be on an interim basis. My focus now is on working with Alan Irvine to build a strong team and one that is capable of achieving promotion back to the Championship as soon as possible.

'It has been a tough few weeks for everybody who cares about Sheffield Wednesday but by working together, we must try to ensure that we are able to look forward to a brighter season ahead.'

More, no doubt, to follow.

I think he realised that investment was tougher than he expected! What direction do we go in now??

Very disappointed in this news. I bought 2 season tickets for last season and 2 for next simply because I thought we were going forward with Lee Strafford. Bad news is never-ending at this club.

Can't say I blame him, after all the garbage he has had to put up with. Its something everyone could do without. Here's a guy with Sheffield Wednesday at heart & all he ever gets is flak. Thanks for all you have done & good luck for the future.

Maybe he had been reading some of the inane criticisms of him that had been posted on this site. It's a crushing blow. He was a breath of fresh air as chairman and managed to instill some belief in the club, putting Wednesday's interests before his own. Let's hope we get someone who can continue to raise Wednesday's profile with investors.

i dont blame him the amount of stick he was getting. i think some people believe it should be so easy to get investment into the club. the fact is we have lots of debt, are in league 1, have a poor squad, and our averaging way below what we should be getting. thought he did an good job as he could of. UTO!
