Irvine Looks At Scottish Talent

Wednesday could have a Scottish invasion amongst their playing ranks next season with boss Alan Irvine looking to his homeland to bolster his squad.

The Owls boss has been working hard to improve his squad for their League One campaign next season, with numerous trips north of the border on scouting missions.

Irvine has revealed that he'd like to sign at least six players for an assault on the League One title and a swift return to the Championship next season.

And with Wednesday's current financial problems, Irvine insists Scotland could well suit the Owls down to a tee.

'I think lots of people are looking at Scotland,' he told the Sheffield Star.

There are a huge number of Scotish players in the Championship and the reason that a lot of clubs are looking at him is because they are affordable.'

That's certainly good news for Wednesday, but the Owls boss is keeping tight-lipped on his initial targets as he looks to get his squad ready for the new campaign sooner, rather than later.

What about League of Ireland, Kevin Doyle/Stephen Hunt/Shane Long/Wilo Flood, they didnt do too bad.

last year BL flew into the market and look where that got us. Let Al do the job in his own time then at least he'll be signing players he wants rather than satisfying the appetites of those who just want news.

I remember when Danny Wilson tried that approach!!!

Word on the street is that we're looking at Carl Cort.
Carbone's Padawan
first signing is hamilton striker mikael antoine curier

Carl Cort... no he won't be coming. No where near good enough. Nice try though.
jamesc1905
Don't think either of the two named mentioned would set League 1 alight- curier or cort. Wish we'd look at more potent strikers like le fondre or Simeon Jackson
Carbone's Padawan
i agree carbone's would love either of those two, would like either paynter or austin but wouldnt be able to get them i dont think. maybe we could swap tudgay for two of them.
Wednesdayforlife
There are loads of players that would benefit us but would they come down to league one with matching wages?. Not to mention we would have to get most of em out of contract as a freebie unless Tudgay and Grant are on their way.

le fondre and jackson would be my first choice two, cant see it though. elliot ward (the overhead kick for donny) is out of contract at coventry.... hed be a cracking signing

Is 'Scottish Talent' like Britains Got Talent , but with alchohic fire breathing dwarves, battered- mars- bar- eating jugglers , three legged dog acrobats and ginger break dancers?
greeny9
we've had mickael antoine-curier before and he was miles off the pace, can't imagine he's got any better

I`m not against this sponcership with the childrens hospital as it`s a good cause ,but would we get more cash if we were sponcered by a firm or another organisation on the shirts. we can still sponcer the hospital via doing events
