Owls In Sedgwick Talks

Wednesday are in early discussions with midfielder Chris Sedgwick to make him Alan Irvine's first summer recruit, according to reports today.

The Sheffield born winger has been tipped to become an Owl ever since it was revealed that his contract with Preston North End wouldn't be renewed.

And it now looks like the deal has moved a step closer to becoming reality with Irvine said to be in discussions with Sedgwick's agent to bring him to Hillsborough.

The 30-year-old made 228 appearances for North End in his six years at the club, and also played 244 times for Rotherham United, where he made his name in football.

Sedgwick could be the first of eight players - all thought to be on free transfers - to arrive at Wednesday in the close season as boss Irvine looks to build a squad capable of bouncing back to the Championship at the first attempt.

I'm sick of signing midfielders who don't get enough goals.
flinoycore

Counago from Ipswich Jones from Hartlepool Mellor also Preston? Just seen Bouzazza been released from Blackpool. Quality player though doubt he would drop into League One.
jamesc1905
getting a real deja vu feeling

can't see us attracting counago or bouazza - they're championship quality and will definately go to another club in my opinion. jones is a maybe and I kind of doubt getting mellor too actually. it'd be nice if we could attract some of these guys though, I rate all the guys mentioned.

I suppose we will end up with what we can afford really. Not being negative, but looks as if the 10,000 season ticket sales money has dissapeared into thin air. Still waiting for some definitive statement from the board or any potential investors, so that may or may not happen anytime soon. Looks as though Mr Strafford was the last resignation which is a shame, thought the bean counter Greirson might have fell on his sword. Onward and upwards.

retfordowl1867
the longer we go without signing anybody the more worried i get! dont no much about this guy, but will have to wait and see. STRIKERS are top of the list for me.
Wednesdayforlife
chill out the transfer widow doesnt start for 5 weeks.
ozzietheowl
managers are signing players now though, thats why there are people panicing and the more time that passes the more chance that the players that are decent and available for free will be signed and we will miss out!!!
supersibon
Don't really know much about Sedgwick apart from recognising his name. I still feel we want young, ambitious, bags of potential players but that comes at a price I guess... Well lets just see what happens. Granty is fast becoming a Wednesday Legend, thats the type of player we need! UTO WTID
