McNamee Linked With Owls

McNamee Linked With Owls

The Owls have been linked with a summer move for highly-rated Livingston defender David McNamee - but face competition from a host of other clubs for his signature.

The SPL side have announced they have received two bids for the 25-year-old Scotland defender, and have revealed a number of clubs including the Owls, Coventry City and Aberdeen are tracking his progress.

Owls boss Paul Sturrock is chasing another defender to bolster his squad ahead of the new season. Aberdeen defender Kevin McNaughton was high on his wanted list, but McNaughton opted for a move to Championship rivals Cardiff City last week.

SPL side Aberdeen have already ruled themselves out of the running after revealing Livingstone demanded a fee his services.

The defender began his career at St Mirren where he made 23 appearances before moving to Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £300,000. McNamee failed to break into the Rovers side during his three year stay at Ewood Park.

He was released in the summer of 2002 where he returned north of the border and signed for Livingston on a free transfer. The 25-year-old has made 82 league appearances during his time there.

He was involved in Scotland's recent tour of Asia and played in the 5-1 hammering of Bulgaria and the 0-0 draw with Japan.

For all the latest news on David McNamee's possible switch to Hillsborough, keep checking Vital Sheffield Wednesday throughout the week...

Another defender hey? Surprise surprise! KPS must be pretty happy with the attack to be concentrating so much on defenders, but what about this vital central midfielder we've been crying out for? Surely a Simek, Coughlan, Bougherra, Hills defence would be good enough. Maybe he's going for three at the back and wingbacks?

looks like sturrock wants to sign a defender before he sorts anything else out, so hopefully we will get one sooner rather than later!

I think Sturrock will be pondering wether or not to wait for Carson. He would certainly be worth the wait in my opinion. I think he'll be drawing up an alternatives shortlist, which is sure to include Marshall from Celtic and Weaver.

Have a listen to KPS on Radio Sheffield Football Heaven (links in the forum).. he wants two players for every position (presumably of a good standard) and explains the Carson situation very well.

I know Paul Sturrock's from Sscotland, but he seems to look north of the border for a lot of his players, he did the same at Plymouth

It's only natural. He probably knows that league aswell as the Championship, and he can probably get players for cheaper up there than down here...

He doesn't appear to have played many games at Blackburn, but he would surely have learnt a bit from a squad of premiership players.

Well now he's joined Micky Adams at Coventry, we can't have been that serious about him. Bet he does really well now.
