Owls 'Getting On With' Signings

Wednesday may well be edging closer to completing their first signing of the summer, according to chief executive Nick Parker.

While other clubs up and down the country have been completing their first additions to their squad over the close season, Wednesday have yet to make any purchases.

But Parker insists the Owls are hard at work in bringing fresh blood to Hillsborough and that a signing could be, hopefully, just around the corner.

He told the Sheffield Star: 'We've been getting on with it. We've got a lot of players to bring in. Alan knows what his budget is. Assuming Southampton have a big budget, we think ours will be the second highest in the division.'

Former Preston North End player Chris Sedgwick, a Sheffield-born midfield man, has been linked with a move to S6, while former loanee Eddie Nolan, also at PNE, has also been tipped for a return.

But, although boss Alan Irvine has made it clear he's looking for eight new additions for life in League One, the rumours have been few and far between since the end of the season.

Hopefully things will hot up in the next week, and you can see all the latest signings and rumours here on Vital Wednesday.

I've heard AI is waiting until after the world cup before he makes too many purchases. The likes of Ronaldo and Messi need to prove themselves on the big stage before they are offered a knock at S6. I've also heard the move for Robben, which was in its final stages, has been shelved due to his injury. There are also many potential emerging stars. So be patient everyone AI will sort it out.

in all seriousness it wasn't too long ago that you could watch a world cup safe in the knowledge that some of our players would be in it and that would be signing some players who appeared in it! Now the prospect of which free agents from league 1 will be arriving has got us all excited
