Owls Confirm Sedgwick Capture

As reported earlier on Vital Sheffield Wednesday, the Owls have confirmed former Preston North End midfielder Chris Sedgwick as their first signing of the summer.

The lifelong Wednesdayite has penned a two-year deal with the club and will officially join the club on Thursday, July 1.

"It`s great to be here. I`ve wanted to play for Sheffield Wednesday for such a long time so to get this sorted is a great feeling.

"I`ve supported Wednesday all my life, my family are all Wednesdayites too so to get this opportunity is fantastic."

The 30-year-old has enjoyed much experience at Championship level and was a key part of Preston's squad in the six years he was at Deepdale.

And Owls boss Alan Irvine knows his qualities well from his time as boss of the Lilywhites.

He said: "Chris is a player I know very well from my time at Preston. I know him as a player and a professional and he has all the right attributes I am looking for.

"He is very experienced, very fit, has the strength of character to play at Hillsborough and has a tremendous work ethic. He is also a Sheffield Wednesday supporter and really wants to play for this club.

"I enjoyed working with him at Preston and I am looking forward to working with him again with Sheffield Wednesday."

Very happy about Sedgewick a bit of experience and a Wednesdayite! Also I would love to see Steve Maclean back if he bought back the form he left with, but not sure he would. Plus personally I would like to see a bit of height and strength up front!

Thank god for that, was starting worry, another 6 or 7 signings like this will be good, at least 2 strikers though please.
sussexowl
Well 10goalpayne i hear we could be going back to Preston for John (the beast) Parkin, Liam Chilvers and Eddie nolan, plus Ritchie jones and Pablo Counago.
ecco owl
ecco thatd be quality if them lot came in... any truth behind the bouazza rumour at all??
Carbone's Padawan
Jon Otsemobor that means Nolan will not becoming back, unless Al's going to use him somewhere else.
ecco owl
A promising first signing. In effect we have traded Esajas for Sedgewick, and I reckon thats a good swap. Surely we will get greater consistency from Sedgewick and an impact on many more matches.
GreenhillOwl
Well Clinton Morrison is avaliable and he has scored enough against us in his time maybe he should repay us, think some championship club will snap him up and probably demand high wages
10goalpayne
Great news with the recent signings, i'm feeling a bit more optimistic about a swift return to the championship
