'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Nice One, Heff...

It may not be Manchester United and Arsenal we're bidding against, but it's nice to know that we're still a relative 'pull' for some players...

Bristol Rovers and Carlisle United, two of Wednesday's League One opponents next season, have both come out to show their disappointment that Paul Heffernan chose the Owls over moves to their respective clubs.

Heffernan, who penned a two-year deal following his departure from Doncaster Rovers, was in-demand this close season.

It may not be beating United and Arsenal to the signing of Lionel Messi, but it's a sign that we'll be able to compete, and better, most clubs in League One in terms of money for players next season.

Last season the excuses, if we can call them that, about our budget for playing staff being one of the lowest in the Championship, was a constant throughout the campaign.

Now those excuses are gone and we focus our attention firmly on getting back into the Championship at the first attempt, trusting boss Alan Irvine with the money available to build a squad to do just that.

He seems to be doing a decent job of rebuilding so far, and with four or five arrivals yet to come through the Hillsborough doors,m we could yet see other players chose Wednesday over other clubs.
