Wednesday Escape FA Charges

Wednesday have escaped having any charges slapped against them following the Hillsborough pitch 'invasion' on the last match of the season against Crystal Palace.

The Football Association (FA) were investigating a number of Owls fans who went onto the Hillsborough pitch following the 2-2 draw against Palace and relegation to League One.

It followed Eagles fans also entering the field of play in celebration of maintaining their position in the Championship.

But the FA have decided against slapping any charges on the club.

And stadium operations manager John Rutherford was delighted, telling the official SWFC website: 'I am pleased with the outcome of the investigation.

'It fully vindicates our matchday operation here at Hillsborough and underlines the fact that the club did everything possible in its planning and preparation to manage any incidents following what was an extremely tense game against Crystal Palace.'
