Owls Hoping To Fend Off Grant Interest

Vital understands that Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant is a target for Championship side Burnley.

The Clarets, managed by former Wednesday manager Brian Laws, were always going to be linked with some Owls players over the summer, but following the expected capture of United's Billy Sharp today, the Lancashire outfit are hoping to secure Grant too.

Burnley look like strong contenders to challenge for promotion next season, but one area they are lacking is in goal. Stalwart Brian Jensen was at fault for a lot of the goals conceeded last term and this perhaps resulted in them losing their Premier League status.

Laws brought Grant to S6, and is obviously an admirer. With parachute payments to spare, Wednesday couldn't realistically fend off a substantial bid from over the Peninnes, and although Grant is highly-rated by Alan Irvine, the club are believed to be willing to listen to offers.

As ever, Vital will keep you up to date on any comings and goings at Hillsborough over the summer.

Oh dear.
Carbone's Padawan
On a side note The Star reports that Irvine is mulling over a move for Jon Macken. Any thoughts on that?

Best look at snaping up Nicky Weaver then

Can't see us hanging on the Grant if Laws is coming in for him. Is Weaver the only viable replacement?
Carbone's Padawan
I'd go for Ian Turner of Everton, we've had him on loan here previously and Irvine will know all about him.

if i was grant i wouldnt want to go to burnley, i would wait for a better offer, with laws i cant see burley going anywhere. i hope we keep him! would want decent money for him tho, at least 2M.
Wednesdayforlife
turner would be a good shout, we need 2-3m for grant, player of the season in championship, young and english, hope he doesn't go but wouldn't blame him

On a slightly connected note can I express a little praise for Lee and his agent. Unlike the appalling behaviour by a player and his agent when connected with a move to the golden halls of Burnley last season (shakes head in bemusement), Grant's agent is not publicly trying to part the player from the club. If he goes (and many of us may be resigned to this) may I wish Lee all the best. Imre Varadi could learn a thing about representation and how to behave from Grant's agent.

You've hit the nail right on the head robc, take note Tudgay and Varadi, i'm hearing today that we are linked with Keegan Parker and Wednesday fan Matt Sparrow ?
