Burton Gets Jamaica Call-Up

Owls striker Deon Burton has been called-up to the Jamaica squad in time to face England in a pre-World Cup warm up match at Old Trafford this Saturday.

Burton has been training with the Reggae Boyz during their time in England, and will now replace Watford striker Marlon King - who has been booted out of the squad for breaking the team camp curfew.

Jamaica Football Federation president Crenston Boxhill told the Jamiaca Gleaner: 'There was more to it than just breaking curfew and coming late, Marlon King was rude, he was rude and unapologetic. In the discussion that the management team had with him, he was quite unapologetic, which was what really warranted him being expelled from the camp.'

Jason Euell and Jamal Campbell-Ryce had also been expelled from the squad for the same reason as King, but will now remain in the squad after successfully appealing against the decision.

The news means that former Derby County striker Burton is likely to make an appearance in Saturday's match, and could even feature against former team-mate Scott Carson, should the former Wednesday loanee get a run out in goal for England.

Boxhill continued: 'The players trained today and were quite positive, they understand the decisions that were taken, this incident hasn't been really that disruptive to the camp. Things have been good, we have played the Ghana game and now we are really looking forward to the England one.'

Burton joined the Owls in the January transfer window from Rotherham United for a fee of £110,000. He helped the Owls secure their Championship status by forming a strong partnership alongside Marcus Tudgay.

Jamaica will play England as part of Sven Goran-Erikssons pre World Cup warm up matches. The match will take place on Saturday June 3 at Old Trafford. The match is live on BBC Sport.

I hope he doesn't make a single tackle, imagine if he puts Owen or Gerrard out of the WC, we'd be hated, even more.
