Owls Sign Mellor On Season Loan

The busy day of transfer activity has continued in S6 today with Preston North End striker Neil Mellor the latest to become an Owl.

Sheffield-born Mellor has penned a season-long loan at Hillsborough and will join his new team-mates on their pre-season training camp in Austria, which starts on Saturday.

Owls boss Alan Irvine told the official SWFC website: 'Neil is a player I know very well from my time at Preston and I am delighted to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday for the season.

'We've worked really hard to bring Neil and all the other new players to the club and I'm very pleased with the business we have done.

'I'd be excited about the squad we have assembled for the Championship, never mind League One.'

Irvine worked with Mellor during his time as manager of the Deepdale club and will know his qualities well.

He follows Gary Teale, who signed a two-year deal at the club, to Wednesday today.

If these two stays fit Mellor & Heffernan could be potent strike force in this league.

hate to break it to ya pig boy but your squad is SERIOUSLY light on the ground. i personally always want sheffield teams to do well, in an ideal world sufc would be 2nd in prem behind owls but i think you will struggle this season. loo at our squads comapred, there isnt really much difference in quality if you are honest with yourself.

well done alan irvine, he's turned a pretty depressing end to last season into a positve start to this season. Looking forward to it...

can see mellor doing a great job for us and our other strikers just cant see him score to many goals very happy to have him big strong lad and hard to play against ..what is that tit BFL on about did anybody see the two they have on trial not JAPS .KOREA . CHINESE. but veitnemese
dublin owl
No point in arguing with BFL, his team are not in competition with us so no point, simple. Mellor, no great goal scorer but will lead the line allowing his strike partner the opportunity to make a name. If Tudders remains he should finish as top scorer.

That is the only way to react. Trying to score points is not funny. At least it isn't until they fail and you return.

Anyone know anything about Youl Mawene being at Hillsbro for a medical on Friday? Also great article about Dave Richirds in the Express!
Davidsthirst
It is reported that Youl Mawene is set to quit Preston North End for Sheffield Wednesday. Mawene will be the third player to link up with former North End boss Alan Irvine at Hillsborough following Chris Sedgewick and Neil Mellor, who is joining the Owls on a season-long loan. Mawene is out of contract and has been in discussion with the club over a new contract. Boss Darren Ferguson was hopeful of keeping the veteran centre-back as he only has Sean St Ledger as a recognised player in that position. The recent Hemmings takeover has seen the introduction of a tight budget regime. It seems Mawene was asked to take a pay cut from £5000 to £3000 but he refused.
