Former Owl Is New Shrimpers Boss

Former Wednesday manager Paul Sturrock has taken charge of League Two club Southend United.

Sturrock has been out of management since leaving Plymouth Argyle last year but takes over from Steve Tilson, who was surprisingly axed as Southend boss last week.

The 53-year-old Scot, who guided the Owls to promotion from League One, is charged with guiding the Roots Hall club back up the league ladder following relegation last season.

Sturrock spent two years at Hillsborough, taking charge in September 2004 and helping Wednesday to promotion from League One at the first time of asking before cementing the Owls' position in the Championship.

He then moved on to Swindon Town before returning to Plymouth to take charge of 99 games.
