Mellor Eyes Permanent Owls Stay
Wednesday's on-loan striker Neil Mellor is looking to turn his year-long stay at Hillsborough into a permanent one.
The former Liverpool man arrived at Wednesday on a year-long loan deal from Preston North End, where he has been deemed surplus to requirements.
But the 27-year-oldm striker is already looking to turn his stay into a permanent one with some top-drawer performances in the blue and white stripes next season.
And Owls boss Alan Irvine, who also worked with Mellor during his time at Deepdale, hopes the striker can do enough to earn a full transfer come this time next season.
'If you get somebody in for a month, they're really just visiting, whereas Neil is saying 'I want something out of this.' It means he has a target to aim for,' Irvine told the Sheffield Star.
'He knows the more successful we are, the better the chance of us being able to sort something out.'
Mellor's contract at Preston still has another two years to run, meaning Wednesday would have to fork out a transfer fee for his services should they decide to keep him permanently.
