Mellor Eyes Permanent Owls Stay

Wednesday's on-loan striker Neil Mellor is looking to turn his year-long stay at Hillsborough into a permanent one.

The former Liverpool man arrived at Wednesday on a year-long loan deal from Preston North End, where he has been deemed surplus to requirements.

But the 27-year-oldm striker is already looking to turn his stay into a permanent one with some top-drawer performances in the blue and white stripes next season.

And Owls boss Alan Irvine, who also worked with Mellor during his time at Deepdale, hopes the striker can do enough to earn a full transfer come this time next season.

'If you get somebody in for a month, they're really just visiting, whereas Neil is saying 'I want something out of this.' It means he has a target to aim for,' Irvine told the Sheffield Star.

'He knows the more successful we are, the better the chance of us being able to sort something out.'

Mellor's contract at Preston still has another two years to run, meaning Wednesday would have to fork out a transfer fee for his services should they decide to keep him permanently.

Great news that he wants to stay, means he's going to give his all next season. Didn't think I'd be saying this but I'm looking forward to seeing him play next season.

Just hoping AI has put a future transfer fee option into the agreement with PNE. Dont want him having a great season and pricing himself out or our reach.

Great news. I think if he stays fit, he could be up there around the 20 goals mark, something we've needed for quite a few seasons now

A poor level of wit. Frankly I'm disappointed; at least I suppose you didn't opt for the comedic genius that is your "pig" related insults thoug. Razor sharp you are mate. Those pig jokes always seem so fresh and you always deliver them like true pro.

Just re-read it and you went for "injury prone porker" so I guess I was wrong. I guess you are as one-dimensional as Biggins' tactics. Keep 'em coming though mate keep 'em coming.
