Owls Stopper Could Miss Season Start

Wednesday have been dealt a pre-season injury blow with the news that number one Lee Grant could well miss the start of the club's npower League One campaign.

It's no secret that Grant had an operation following the end of last season due to a shoulder injury which he played through in Wednesday's relegation battle.

And he's stayed in S6 while the rest of the squad are on their pre-season training camp in Austria to help try and speed up his recovery.

But Owls boss Alan Irvine can't guarantee that the stopper will be fit and ready for the first game of the season on Saturday, August 7.

'It's difficult to tell until he's seen the specialist next week or the week after,' Irvine told the Sheffield Star.

'We don't know if it's a setback yet; he's a goalkeeper so his type of work is different to that of an outfield player.'

It means the Owls could be relying on young stopper Richard O'Donnell to plug the gap during pre-season and for the start of the campaign in required.
