Owls Linked With Davenport

The Owls have been linked with a summer move for highly-rated Tottenham Hotspur defender Calum Davenport, according to the players agent Colin Gordon.

Reports in the media this week have claimed the England under-21 international has been told he can leave White Hart Lane by Spurs boss Martin Jol, with the Owls and Reading both showing interest in his signature.

Gordon told Sky Sports: 'It is rubbish to suggest Calum has been told he can leave. He has not been told anything and he is one of four central defenders at Tottenham. Calum is just concentrating on pre-season training and he is looking forward to the new season.'

Davenport has made just one first team start for the Londoners since his move to White Hart Lane from Coventry City in 2004. He's also spent loan spells at West Ham United, Southampton and Norwich City.

Gordon revealed that the defender has been tracked by a number of clubs, but his future lies at the hands of Spurs boss Martin Jol.

He continued: 'Reading and Sheffield Wednesday are admirers of Calum, but it would be down to Tottenham at the end of the day. '

Owls boss Paul Sturrock has recently signed former Crewe defender Madjid Bougherra to add to the current centre-back pairing of Graham Coughlan and Richard Wood. Sturrock announced earlier in the week that he hopes to add two more players to bolster his squad ahead of pre-season training.

Sounds good to me, maybe available on a season-long loan? Looks a very promising defender but not ready to hold a first team place with Spurs.

Sounds like a good player but wednesday seem to want to be linked with a lot of defenders when there maybe other areas which need strengthening.

As i understand it, MJ and his backroom lads have been buying the best of the young crop of players ,both home and abroad ,as the bloodline for the future of spurs, yet when they are put out on loan to gain experiance plus a few scrapes and bruises, everyone wants to sell them off, have they lost all their skill ,quality and potential while they were away?

If there is one position we don't need to improve, it's got to be central defence. I've never really rated this kid, so i'd prefer us to use our limited money for a goalie and quality midfielder/forward.

I doubt you would get him on a loan, have to move quick Reading must be favourites, our worthless worthington says we can afford him, then quoted a figure of 2 years old 3 mill... Something around 1 mill should get him....

Can't see it being a proper link but I'm prepared to be proved wrong.
