Owls Sign Former Cov Man Morrison

Wednesday have completed their eighth signing of the summer by securing the services of free agent Clinton Morrison on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old, released from his contract at Coventry City at the end of last season, is arguably Wednesday's biggest signing this pre-season.

Crystal Palace and Leeds United were also linked with the Republic of Ireland international, but the Owls have swooped to get their man.

Morrison will take the number 30 shirt for the forthcoming npower League One campaign and will bolster the Owls' striker ranks - which already includes summer arrivals Neil Mellor and Paul Heffernan, as well as Marcus Tudgay and Jermaine Johnson.

The news has been met with delight by the majority of Wednesdayites, although some believe it could see the end of Tudgay's time at Hillsborough.

Morrison started his career with Palace before securing a big-money move to Birmingham.

A move back to Selhurst Park followed before he moved to the Sky Blues - where he finished last season.

Morrison is set to get his first Wednesday outing when the Owls travel to Grimsby Town for a pre-season friendly this Saturday.

awesome signing 16 years of being a owl never been as excited as i am now bout the new season
retfordowl1867
im shocked, mellor tudgay heffernan and morrison= promotion.
ozzietheowl
Excellent. I'd be happy if we signed him in The Championship. Irvine's going to have a tough choice selecting a strike force now. I'd go with Morrison and Mellor, with Tudgay on the right of midfield.

We can realistically look forward to a great season.

Grant--Jones,Purse,Beevers,Otsem--JJ,JOC,Miller,Tudgay--Morrison,Mellor quality side and we've got decent back up in every postion
nice1emile
could this be the end for tudders, if not hes gonna have to improve massivley to get a starting place now
Barton6435
Fair play Mr Irvine!!! You've gotta hand it to him.... he's managed to bring the sort of players in that our other managers couldn't even acheive in the Championship! Can't wait for the season to get going now... i know we are Sheffield Wednesday but we must be firm favourites for the league now. If we keep the players that could potentially bring us in some money we have a VERY good looking Championship squad let alone league 1!! Grant, Spurr/Jones, Beevers, Purse, Ostembor, JJ/Teale, Miller, O'Conner, Tudgay/Sedgwick, Mellor, Morrison would be my propsed team but with the players we've bought in it's nice to have effective cover. COME ON YOU OWLS!!

Morrison great signing now just to finish things off Youl Mawene and we've got one heck of a team.
ecco owl
Mawene would be an excellent addition and I believe he could be the final signing. Can't grumble much about all the summer signings, but I would have liked a quality central midfielder. Be interested to see the front two for the first match!
nickswfc
Where's that boring blunt when you want him, cum on bfl say something!
OWL25
People seem to be forgeting coke, he should be a reet player. Mawene would finish our summer signings off nicely.

Pleased though I think we should all calm down a bit. Great signing though and seems good business with what cash for wages Irvine Has.
jamesc1905
Great signing hopefully he score lots og goals for us. He always had the knack of scoring against us!
CLIFFANDJ
He's just been interviewed on Wednesday player....Irvine has been after him for a few weeks and he turned down Championship clubs to sign for the Owls.
CLIFFANDJ
great signing but lets not get carried away and take 1 game at a time im scratching my head as to were the money is comeing from for the players we got this season when we could not get players like these when we were in the champ
dublin owl
cracking signing, anyone know if hell be playing anywhere tomorow night?
smiggyswfc
The squad's have already been named smiggy so probably not - more likely playing at Grimsby at the weekend
nickswfc
Brill signing. Well done A.I. Lets hope we don't have to sell anybody to pay these new recruits. Optimistic about the new season but this is Wednesday we're talking about hope I'm proved wrong and we get off to a Flyer, top for Christmas. What a PRESSIE
vic mobley
He's definitely not playing tomorrow Smiggy...there is an outside chance he will play some part in Saturday's match but more likely to be one of the games next week.
CLIFFANDJ
At least it stops him scoring against us, which he always seemed to do :)
Auckland Owl
weres everyone off to tomorow? its daft there playing em both at the same time. should of been one today one tomorow
smiggyswfc
According to vital Grimsby we are after Yorks Richard Brodie ?
ecco owl
A great signing but if you look at the options Mellor, Morrision, Heffonon, Tudgay n JJ - I believe it paves way for tudgay or JJ to leave the club - we aint guna need 4 strikers in L1. Personally after seein the majority of wednesday games last year it wouldnt bother me in Tudgay left as long as we got the right price. Looking forward to the new season tho as long as we can keep the squad together, william hill got wednesday at 7/1 to be L1 champions - must be worth a few quid!!!
welshowls90
I believe we'll be keeping JJ and Tudders.....JJ will be used more as a winger because his pace in League 1 will be a huge bonus for us. The competition for places should be good and may even bring out the best in tudders to avoid sitting on the bench all season :)
mallyman
Quality signing, as the others have been. The optimism grows every day.

Got to change my name here, cos ime not half as fed up as I was. There is a god after all. Where's that t**t BFL
fed_up_owl
BFL's gone quiet 'cos he knows the squad AI has put together is better than theirs (or had his PC confiscated by his Mum!!) so is now seriously worried Utd's brief stay as top club in Sheffield is nearly over, Wednesday are on their way back to once again be top dogs. All of football knows Wednesday have always been bigger, more successful, more entertaining, more attractive a club and as they say, form is temporary, class is permanent, Utd will never have class and will always be in our shadow as the 2nd club in Sheffield behind Wednesday, UTO!!
sussexowl
where isPFL when you need him lol well done AI very impressed sir champions by feb you can take that to the bank (ok maybe not) lol but bloody well done us U.T.O
HorburyOwl
i will be shocked if there is no promotion this season.. real shocked.
Wednesday Til I Die
Well done Mr Irvine... There seems to be a good mix of quality players in our squad now. At L1 level we should be strong enough to be pushing for automatic spot but it's never easy facing the smaller clubs. Defo beter squad than last season, it's a shame BL didn't leave a lot sooner.... Who give a rats a55 where BFL is, we could do without that immature little 5hite on our site!
Owlsmad
where's BFL?? ha ha you soft lads.....administrator...administrator, please can you stop BFL messaging on here he's spoiling our league 1 site...cry cry cry.... ha ha ha typical of 13 year old school kids when they get together on a football forum called vital wendy!!
