Owls Sign Former Cov Man Morrison

Owls Sign Former Cov Man Morrison

Wednesday have completed their eighth signing of the summer by securing the services of free agent Clinton Morrison on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old, released from his contract at Coventry City at the end of last season, is arguably Wednesday's biggest signing this pre-season.

Crystal Palace and Leeds United were also linked with the Republic of Ireland international, but the Owls have swooped to get their man.

Morrison will take the number 30 shirt for the forthcoming npower League One campaign and will bolster the Owls' striker ranks - which already includes summer arrivals Neil Mellor and Paul Heffernan, as well as Marcus Tudgay and Jermaine Johnson.

The news has been met with delight by the majority of Wednesdayites, although some believe it could see the end of Tudgay's time at Hillsborough.

Morrison started his career with Palace before securing a big-money move to Birmingham.

A move back to Selhurst Park followed before he moved to the Sky Blues - where he finished last season.

Morrison is set to get his first Wednesday outing when the Owls travel to Grimsby Town for a pre-season friendly this Saturday.

Excellent. I'd be happy if we signed him in The Championship. Irvine's going to have a tough choice selecting a strike force now. I'd go with Morrison and Mellor, with Tudgay on the right of midfield.

Fair play Mr Irvine!!! You've gotta hand it to him.... he's managed to bring the sort of players in that our other managers couldn't even acheive in the Championship! Can't wait for the season to get going now... i know we are Sheffield Wednesday but we must be firm favourites for the league now. If we keep the players that could potentially bring us in some money we have a VERY good looking Championship squad let alone league 1!! Grant, Spurr/Jones, Beevers, Purse, Ostembor, JJ/Teale, Miller, O'Conner, Tudgay/Sedgwick, Mellor, Morrison would be my propsed team but with the players we've bought in it's nice to have effective cover. COME ON YOU OWLS!!

Mawene would be an excellent addition and I believe he could be the final signing. Can't grumble much about all the summer signings, but I would have liked a quality central midfielder. Be interested to see the front two for the first match!
