Wednesday Prepare For Grimsby Test

Alan Irvine takes his new-look side to the seaside today as Wednesday come up against Blue Square Premier side Grimsby Town in a pre-season friendly.

The Owls have already enjoyed victories over Stocksbridge Park Steels and Hallam FC domestically in the last week.

But, with all due respect to the Steels and Hallam, the Mariners are set to give Wednesday their first real test of the pre-season at Blundell Park.

And almost 1,500 Wednedayites will be there to see it, with a bumper crowd expected at Blundell Park.

Irvine split his senior squad down the middle for the midweek clashes against Stocksbridge and Hallam, but they're expected to come together against Neil Woods' men.

Irvine could rest some of his players though - with a friendly at Darlington taking place next week giving him the chance to field more players.

Travelling Owls fans will no doubt give former Wednesday striker Lee Peacock, now captain of Grimsby, a good reception.

Check Vital Sheffield Wednesday for a match report and reaction from today's clash with the Mariners.
