Morrison Needs A Little Patience

New Wednesday signing Clinton Morrison must be patient for his debut in the famous blue and white stripes, according to Owls boss Alan Irvine.

The former Coventry City man has yet to feature in any pre-season friendly fixtures for the Owls since penning a two-year contract at the start of last week.

And Morrison is set to sit out Tuesday's friendly trip to Darlington as he 'catches up' with the rest of the Wednesday squad in terms of fitness levels.

The striker has been involved in just two training sessions with the rest of the squad since his arrival.

It means Irvine will give the Republic of Ireland international more time before throwing him in to a first team match.

Morrison could feature in Saturday's friendly trip to face Scunthorpe United on Saturday - but he's more likely to start when Wednesday take on South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley on Tuesday, July 27.

Best to ease him back into it rather than rush him, though I hope he gets 2/3 pre-season run outs so he's fit for the start of the season. He can't be that far behind the rest, surely?

He can't be that far behind in terms of fitness levels. He was on Sky Sports News the other week at a training centre for players who were out of contract or didn't have a club, run by Trevor Benjamin, and he was saving that the players there probably work harder than players that are just starting back after their summer breaks. Looks to me that he is carrying an injury if he is not being played.....

Also, anyone heard if anything is happening with Mawene? If we are conceding against non-league opposition then question have still got to be asked about the back four???

Not heard anything but we should probably wait until after 3 or 4 games to start judging our back four. It all comes from the front anyway and we didn't have a full side out.

Friendlies are no big deal. Newcastle lost 6-0 against Leyton Orient last season, didn't do them much harm did it?
