Irvine Gives Clue To Grant Future

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has possibly given his biggest clue yet that he expects Owls stopper Lee Grant to be pulling on the number one top at Hillsborough next season.

Grant has been linked with a move away from Wednesday this summer following the club's relegation to League One, with West Brom, Celtic and Burnley amongst the names supposed to be interested.

But in an interview with the Sheffield Star, Irvine has said that he thinks Grant will 'be the best goalkeeper in the league next season.'

The quote points towards Grant being Wednesday's number one throughout next term, and Irvine has already said that he doesn't need to sell his best players this summer.

Everybody has a value though, and a tempting offer for Grant before the start of the season could well still see him leave for pastures new.

But this latest quote from the Owls boss must give Wednesdayites a huge confidence boost about the future of the former England U21 stopper.

Grant is currently on the sidelines recovering from an operation on a shoulder injury, but Vital understands that Grant is winning his battle to be fit for the start of the new season.
