Grant Bid Rejected, Baggies Move In?

Wednesday have rejected a bid from Burnley to sign goalkeeper Lee Grant according to reports today, but West Brom may be moving in on the Owls' number one.

The Turf Moor club, managed by former Owls boss Brian Laws, were reported to have made a bid for Grant's services yesterday.

But talk from Lancashire this morning points towards Wednesday rejecting the Clarets' initial offer, which is understood to be around the 1 million mark.

It means Burnley, relegated from the Premier League last season, will have to come back with an improved offer if they want to take the former England U21 to Turf Moor.

But they could face competition for his services with newly-promoted Premier League side West Brom tracking the stopper.

The Baggies have been chasing Preston's highly-rated goalkeeper Andy Lonergan throughout pre-season, but have called a halt to their chase following North End boss Darren Fergsuson's 20m rating of the goalkeeper.

It means the Midlands club could look to Grant, who they've been linked with before, to solve their goalkeeping problems.

Celtic, another club to have been linked with Grant this pre-season, are looking elsewhere, with Portsmouth and England stopper David James top of their wanted list.

put a price of 5mill on him it will stop all these foolish bids of 1mill or 1.5mill if we are and i hope we dont sell at least we get near to 5 rather than 1mill

3m or 4m should see us pick up a decent replacement although I hope he stays, at least for this season to see how things pan out. He should be playing at a higher level and deserves to be but he would only be warming the bench at WBA surely!! He said he wants to stay and Wednesday don't want or need to sell him so all these jokers can fudge off, follow Prestons lead and put a ridiculous price tag on him that no one would ever pay, they might get the message then we're not interested.
sussexowl
if prestons lonergan as a price tag of 20mill then if we dont have to sell put 25mill on grants head that will sort the men out from te boys
mick66owl
least grant has'nt come out and said he wants to leave like wood did !
retfordowl1867
With him having 2 years left on his contract, I would expect us to put some sort of value on him. I agree with Sussex, at least 3 or 4 million easy!!!
Hickyowl1977
a league 1 keeper will never fetch that sort of money. the best you can expect is 1.5m, celtic, west brom or burnley his likely destination.
bladesforlife1889
least he's not took drugs bfl
vic mobley

wondered how long it would take the piggy b*****d to jump onto this one. Just F**k off and play somewhere else again. Sure your mom must need taking shopping, and you still have a pile of ironing to do.

And by the way s**t for brains, we have signed players because we have released some. We have a tight budget to work with, but as you know, because you follow us closely, our bank are very supportive. The "winding up" order is for unpaid PAYE, so that would be tax at around 40% and NI at say 10% just so you can compute it. 50% would mean wages of about 1.1M. Thats 20 players at 5K per week for 11 weeks, or the last VAT quarter. Unless you are a total D**k head, that will be the Qtr where not much football is played and revenue is a bit slow coming in from sources other than season tickets, which I am glad to say, seems to have been used to get the squad that Mr Irvine wants as opposed to the one that Mr Blackwell has been told he must have. Spot the difference laughing stock?
