Weaver Tipped To Replace Grant

Former Manchester City and Wednesday stopper Nicky Weaver is being tipped to replace in-demand Lee Grant as the Owls' number one for next season.

Today's Yorkshire Post is reporting that the die-hard Wednesdayite has agreed to return to Hillsborough to fill the boots of Grant, who is all set for a move away to either Burnley or West Brom before the start of the campaign.

Ironically, Weaver has just been released from Turf Moor where he spent six months covering for regular number one Brian Jenson in the Premier League.

He has also been linked with a move to Premier League new-boys Blackpool but today's report indicates Weaver has already agreed to become an Owl and return to the club he supports.

The Owls have already turned down a bid from Burnley for Grant but expect the Clarets to return with an improved offer, while West Brom and Celtic could also be interested.

Weaver has already pulled on the famous shirt in 2005 during a loan spell but will be returning on a permanent basis this time around if reports are to be believed.

Hope Grant does'nt leave but we could do worse than Nicky weaver

I would be v.happy to get 2mil for Grant, and sign Weaver, good solid kepper for this level, and a Wed fan as well.

Clubs served with a winding up order have a transfer embargo placed on them and they can't sign new players so unless they pay the tax bill we won't be signing Weaver or anybody else!

in an ideal world I would keep Grant but i'd be happy enough with Weaver if we can get over 1 million for Grant. we got grant on a free, he's a good goalie and he made some terrific saves but he also let in almost 70 goals last season including 3 in April that he should have saved easily and cost us 4 points (the deflected shot at Middlesbrough and two against Cardiff).

i was at the middlesboro game away and that goal could not be helped , it took a wicked deflection. Goalkeepers also concede goals when they have a ***** defence infront of them, we dont want to be a selling club and need to hang onto the likes on grant !
SWFC_LUKE
Totally agree with SWFC Luke. We need to start hanging on to quality players and building a strong team capable of winning. Not selling every time we find or mould a decent player. Grant has previously said he wants to stay, AI wants him to stay and this is the time that the board should be coming out and saying he's going nowhere, especially if we are blocked from making any signings. What kind of future does this club have if as soon as Mellor, Morrsion or anyone else starts scoring the goals we've needed for so long - we sell them as soon as any interest is shown. It feels like this club just keeps going around in circles. I get the "too big an offer to refuse" thing but he's worth more than 1.25m and what will that end up being worth to Wednesday in the long run?

you can't keep hold of players to build what you lot call a strong team when you own money out left right and centre inc unpaid tax bills....and face a winding up order..idiots....get into the real world and it time your scrubby club faced facts...you are league 1, skint and arn't in any position to call the shots!! ABSOLUTE FACT!!

not a bad keeper did well for us on loan a few years ago think at the minute we are in a no win situation

I like Weaver but agree totaly with SWFC_LUKE, we need to keep hold of Granty if we can. I understand if he wants to move to pastures new (Prem) but he did pledge his future to us by signing a new contract which says a lot.
