Wednesday Deny Weaver Deal

Wednesday have today denied rumours that Nicky Weaver has agreed a move to Hillsborough to replace the departing Lee Grant, who is set to seal a move to Burnley.

Last Friday's Yorkshire Post reported that Weaver, a die-hard Wednesdayite, had agreed a return to Hillsborough to be Wednesday's number one this season.

But the club have today denied the claims to BBC Radio Sheffield, revealing there has been no 'pay as you play' deal offered to the former Manchester City man, and that nobody from the club has spoke with him.

That doesn't mean that Weaver isn't on boss Alan Irvine's list of potential replacements for Grant though.

He'll still be seen as the front-runner to take Grant's number one jersey, although another former Owls loan player in Iain Turner has also been linked.

Irvine will be keen to tie up a new deal for a goalkeeper sooner rather than later with friendly matches running out ahead of the new season.

i'd be happy with weaver, id be even more happy with turner, grant isnt really a massive loss for league 1, with our squad we should only need a keeper who can catch a bit and make the odd save.

Can anybody on here who has managed to get to the friendlys so far tell me what they have been like. Its easy to be sat at home and think, damn weve lost again but as so many people have said they are only friendlies and mainly about tactics fitness and trying new things. Taking all that aside how are we looking in general and how are the new players looking as individuals is anybody standing out. Cheers

you lot are underestimating league 1 massively, don't forget it wasn't that long ago that you were in league 1 and you were there for what was it 4 seasons before you got very lucky?
bladesforlife1889
Lucky? Define lucky pigforlife. Lucky as in not stuffing up a play-off final like your lot usually do?

iI went to grimsby & Scunthorpe and i think o'donell looked quite confident at Scunthorpe and got 90 mins so he could be given a chance the attack looked poor but the service was poor, high balls knocked in to heffernan and tudgay who had no chance against a 6' 5 centre back (think AI should have bought a target man if we are to play like that ) johnson looked lively but with no end product, apart from that it asn't been very good to watch

it was nice to see LS supporting the team at Scunthorpe.

sorry but i want a experienced keeper bringing in-dont think we can rely on ROD. that lad needs a season on loan at a league 2 club for experience!!! Grant was an amazing shot stopper but thats pretty much it. no command of his area, never came to a ball, so not irreplaceable!! UTO!!!
