'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Always Look On The Bright Side...

Cut-price transfers, winding-up petitions and transfer embargoes don't exactly leave us Wednesdayites oozing with confidence, writes Daniel Robinson.

Neither do rumours of impending protests against the board of directors - but there's always the other side of the coin...

Let us not forget that we have a much stronger squad than last season, especially if you look at like-for-like transfers.

Alan Irvine has replaced Francis Jeffers, without a goal last year, with Paul Heffernan who has an impressive 1 in 3 ratio at League One level.

Other examples are the replacement of Akpo Sodje with Clinton Morrison and the arrival of Neil Mellor following the release of Leon Clarke.

Wednesday have one of the best squads on paper, especially in the third tier, with key areas such as at full-back given crucial competition.

Unfortunately the seemingly certain departure of Lee Grant has put a dampener on the pre-season optimism for many Owls, overshadowing the excellent recruitment drive masterminded by Irvine and Howard Wilkinson.

Being a life-long Wednesday fan, I understand the concerns of many who want to unseat the board and blame them for the current financial crisis at the club.

False promises of a £20m takeover resulted in an offer of £2m.

Lee Strafford, probably the most transparent chairman of the club in recent times, departed, an increase of club debt and now a wind-up petition have hardly inspired Owls to beam with pride recently.

But on August the 7th thoughts will finally return to football...I hope!

UP THE OWLS!

Things could always be worse, you could follow that other shower down the road, now that would be horrible!!

the take over bid wasnt £2mill, you all know that, you have to look at the bigger picture. As for lee, he did some great things at the club, but also i believe he was only transparent in positive things. My worry for this season is we have no gk as of yet, and the dr we got from southampton is supposed to be terrible :( every saints fan i have spoke to has said the same, one even said 'oh no, unlucky m8'
