Irvine Unfazed By Poor Pre-Season

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is refusing to press the panic button in light of a so-far poor pre-season, results-wise at least.

The Owls have only beaten non-league sides Stocksbridge Park Steels and Hallam FC this summer and have failed to win in their last four friendly outings.

A draw against Darlington has been the only 'positive' result, with defeats coming against Grimsby Town, Scunthorpe United and most recently Barnsley.

But Irvine is refusing to believe that poor pre-season form will mean a poor season ahead for Wednesday.

He told the official SWFC website: 'How many times have we seen teams lose some pre-season games and then win when the real ball comes out? And the other way round as well.

'But, of course, I would much rather we were winning games than losing because I never like to lose any game of football.'

The Owls have one more chance of securing a confidence-boosting victory ageah of the new season when they travel to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Can't help but be worried about things so far......

Early days yet Jambo...its very difficult to bring in so many new players and expect them to gel straight away. Keep the faith. The squad is good enough to do well in this division.

i've seen wednesday win all their preseason games on year only to come badly unstuck when the real matches started, so i'm not worried. if anything it will help to focus their minds now on the job in hand

Ime more worried that Morrison hasnt been given a run yet. 5 mins surely wouldnt hurt. After all, he aint got a chance of being match fit for Aug 7th if he hasnt played 1 match. But as AI says, wait till the real ball comes out
