Owls 'Considering' Deal For Weaver

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine has admitted that Nicky Weaver 'is in the driving seat' to become the Owls' number one for the season opener against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

The former Manchester City man and die-hard Wednesdayite has been training with the rest of the Owls squad at Middlewood Road but didn't feature in the friendly defeat at Doncaster Rovers yesterday.

But Irvine has revealed that Weaver, who spent six months at Burnley last season, 'is in the driving seat' to become Wednesday's number one for next season.

'He's done a couple of days with us, we wanted to have a look and see where he was in terms of his fitness and condition first of all and in terms of his reactions and I'm pleased to say that he's looked in good condition,' Irivne told the official SWFC website.

'He's found it tough because he's not done the kind of work that we've been putting him through at this moment but he's done okay so far.'

And with regards to Weaver having an advantage thanks to training with the club, Irvine said: 'That probably puts Nicky in the driving seat as far as that's concerned but it's certainly not a done deal by any means.'

It's looking like Weaver will be given a contract at Hillsborough in the middle of next week and he should be wearing the number one jersey for next weekend's League One opener.

Really hope this is true. Hes top of my list of Keepers I would want at Hillsborough. Come on AI sign him up !! That is when this darn embargo is lifted. Like retfordowl says I thin this deal was done as soon as Granty went its just they cant finalise it because of the embargo, but I think hes as good as an owl !
