Owls Secure Weaver Signing...Finally

Wednesday have completed the signing of former Manchester City and Charlton goalkeeper Nicky Weaver on a one-year deal.

The die-hard Wednesdayite had been training with the Owls but had to wait until the Football League lifted a transfer embargo slapped on Wednesday due to the winding-up petition issued by HMRC.

The club have no reached agreement with HMRC regarding the payment and the embargo has been lifted, allowing Weaver to pen a deal in time for this Saturday's opening game of the npower League One season.

Owls manager Alan Irvine said: "I am really pleased to bring Nicky Weaver to the club. We were keen to bring an experienced goalkeeper in ahead of the new season and Nicky fits that bill.

"The two young goalkeepers we have, Richard O`Donnell and Arron Jameson, did very well in pre-season but I felt we needed that experience for the back four that the two youngsters can only benefit from."

It's the second time Weaver, 31, has been the Owls number one following his loan stint at Hillsborough in 2005.

Superb signing and wednesdayite. Getting more and more players in the team that are actually wednesdayites, back to how it used to be in the early 90s just what we need. Come on Wednesday. UP THE OWLS !!!
