It Was Job Done, Say Owls Fans

Saturday's 2-0 opening day victory over Dagenham & Redbridge may not have been scintillating, but it was 'job done' as far as Wednesdayites on Vital Wednesday were concerned.

The first-half, which saw goals from Giles Coke, via a Scott Doe deflection, and Clinton Morrison had plenty of positives as the Owls led 2-0 at the break.

But a pretty lacklustre second period left the Owls with plenty of work to do if they're to live up to their promotion favourites tag.

Still, Wednesdayites on the Vital forums seemed happy enough with the result of Saturday's npower League One opener.

Miruic said:'3 points and a clean sheet, so can't really complain. It was always unlikely that the team would be gel perfectly considering the number of new players and the poor results in pre-season. All in all quite happy, the new players all added something positive. The only disappointing players for me were Buxton and Potter, both of whom failed to impress but that's not too surprising.'

US Owl said:'Oh well...started the season off in the right way at least...3 points on the board, good attendance and really looking forward to the coming weeks.'

will it ever happen said: 'As for the game, not much to say really. First 25 minutes we were good but after the second goal we just didn't keep the pressure on and go for more. We let them get into the game a bit but they never looked threatening and you really couldn't see them scoring. Quite a boring match really but it is the first game of the season and our first real test of proper football and non of this pre-season crap.

'A good 3 points, good start to the season even if it was dodgy in parts but it only can get better. Well done lads and Irvine. Lets carry on the good start!'

gbh5754 said: 'Not a bad start would have taken that score at 3pm.i rate them 7 out of 10 could do a bit better two good goals and in parts a much better performance than quite a few games last season.'

I think the majority of Owls fans would take that week in, week out if it meant promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
