Purse Shines In Wednesday Win

Wednesday captain Darren Purse started the new season in fine form and has been awarded the man-of-the-match award against Dagenham & Redbridge by Vital Wednesday members.

The defender helped the Owls keep a clean sheet in their opening match of the npower League One season as Wednesday cruised to a 2-0 win against the Daggers at the weekend.

And although Purse didn't exactly have his busiest day in an Owls shirt, he shone alongside Mark Beevers at the heart of the Owls defence - something Wednesdayites will be keen to see continue.

Purse pipped new signing Giles Coke to the first award of the season.

Coke, a summer arrival from the SPL, came into Saturday's match with a lack of match practice over the summer but still did enough to impress the Hillsborough faithful.

Mark Beevers also impressed Wednesday members, as did new arrival Gary Teale, who had a hand in both of Wednesday's goals.

should give him confidence he is the captain so he should be setting the standard

as a defender he was very good, but a simple ball every so often wouldnt be a bad thing, no need to launch it forward down their keepers throat every time.
