Irvine Set To Ring The Changes

Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is set to ring the changes for tomorrow night's Carling Cup clash against Bury - but he's keen for a long run in the competition this season.

The Owls will be firm favourites to progress to the second round of the competition against their League Two opposition tomorrow night.

But although Irvine won't be taking the challenge lightly, he could use it as a chance to give other players a chance following Saturday's league opener.

'I'm hoping we get decent runs in the cups,' Irvine told the Sheffield Star.

'The squad is quite interchangeble. We have players who could be brought in, and players who could get a rest. I'll see how everybody is.'

Irvine could rest striker Clinton Morrison after he featured, and scored, for just over an hour in Saturday's 2-0 victory against Dagenham & Redbridge.

Neil Mellor and Paul Heffernan will both be chomping at the bit to get their first start of the season, while Daniel Jones, Liam Palmer, Jon Otsemobor and Darren Potter could also feature after being included on the bench at the weekend.
