Owls Skipper In Team Of The Week

Wednesday captain Darren Purse has been named in the npower League One team of the week for the opening day of the new season.

Purse's performance in the Owls' 2-0 victory against Dagenham & Redbridge at Hillsborough on Saturday saw him bag a centre-back spot in the Football League's official team of the week for League One.

He was the only Owl in the eleven, with Huddersfield Town leading the way with two players, in midfielders Anthony Pilkington and Gary Roberts, included.

Owls fans will be hoping to see Purse, and the rest of his colleagues, involved in the official team of the week more often than not this season as Wednesday aim for promotion straight back to the Championship.

Vital Wednesday members agree with the decision, having voted Purse as their man-of-the-match from Saturday. Click here for story

He and the rest of the back four will have to be on their toes to control and keep out that Anthony Wordsworth in our next League match.

Good lad! after all the negative stuff he has taken from us I hope to see him in the team of the week regularly, he is capable and should be at this level.

Fully deserved. I hope it's a sign of things to come. WTID

I think he could skipper us to promotion, one of a few players to put some effort in to prevent relegation last season, if only the others put as much in as he did. Anyway that's history and I am excited about what we can achieve this season once all the new players settle in, for the 1st time in ages we've got a strike force that others teams would envy, not just in league 1 but the Champsionship as well.
