Owls Drawn At Scunthorpe In Cup

Wednesday will travel to Championship outfit Scunthorpe United in the second round of the Carling Cup.

The draw took place following the completion of tonight's matches live on Sky Sports News and sent the Owls to Glanford Park.

The match will be played in the week commencing Monday, August 23.

Wednesday progressed through the first round thanks to Giles Coke's 60th-minute winner in the 1-0 win against Bury at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

The Iron saw off Oldham Athletic 2-1 at home to book their place in the next round.

Wednesday will be hoping to do better than their pre-season friendly match at Scunthorpe, where they went down to a 1-0 defeat last month.

what a w**k draw, boring.

Always the same. I can't remember the last time we had an exciting draw. Winnable at least, I guess.
nickswfc
It would have been nice to have a more attractive draw, it will be a tough game in front of a small crowd, not exactly excited by it.

We could have really done with a home tie for this one. It could have been worse though, and at least its not too far to travel

A big sheffield derby in round 2 would have been nice, where is PFL when you need him anyway!!

I think the whole cup is pointless. Just a total waste of time. They really should look to get rid of this competition along with JPT. It only serves a purpose for sponsors.
jamesc1905
im not that bothered about getting knocked out, its all about the league this season....i wouldnt mind a trip to wembley in the JPT though to complete a nice league and cup double.

I'm fairly sure Wednesdayite's didn't think the League Cup was pointless back in 1991 & 1993? A good cup run is good for team morale & the finances so it has it's benefits.
SouthamptonOwl
we was'nt a poor side relegated to the third tier of english football in 1991 or 1993. expectations have changed plenty since those days. winning league games will do plenty for morale on its own.
DEZZYP
I dont know Southampton I thought it was really pointless in 93 on the way back up the M1 with my Dad not saying a word all the way. I will however never ever forget the sound of John Sheridans shot rattling the inside of Les Sealeys post. What a day that was!!! You are a grumpy lot on here this season.
Waddle1993
The game has changed back then it was worth it. Not now, teams have a good cup run and get distracted. Not worth it.
