Mellor Eyes Permanent Owls Stay

Wednesday's on-loan striker Neil Mellor is hoping a good season at Hillsborough will help him earn a permanent move to the club.

Mellor arrived at Wednesday on a season-long loan from Preston over the summer and netted his first goal for the club in the Owls' 1-1 draw at Colchester United on Saturday.

And the former Liverpool player insists he's looking to earn a permanent contract at Hillsborough when his loan deal comes to an end at the end of the season.

'I've worked with Alan Irvine before - if I can be successful then hopefully he can reward me with a full contract,' he told the Sheffield Star.

Irvine said in pre-season that he wasn't keen on bringing loan players to the club unless they arrived with a view to a permanent deal.

And Mellor's desire to stay in his home town with the Owls means a permanent deal is a goer - if he continues to impress the Owls boss this season.

The hitman is set to get his first league start for Wednesday sooner rather than later after netting the leveller on Saturday.

He continued: 'I was delighted to open my account. Hopefully I can kick on from here. When the gaffer gives me a little chance, I always fancy scoring. I know it's not going to be easy to get into the starting team. If we can share the goals, that would be good.'

Good, keep him in the team and prove his worth. Could do great things this season if he plays. He wasnt known as gerd at liverpool for nothing.
