No Player Shortage In Owls' Search

No Player Shortage In Owls' Search

Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has revealed that agents have been 'throwing players' at him as players look for new clubs ahead of transfer deadline day.

The Owls boss has hinted that he could yet add another player to bolster his squad before the close of the current transfer window on Tuesday, August 31.

'I'm getting players thrown at me every day by agents; a lot of players still don't have clubs,' he told the Sheffield Star.

But, with Wednesday's current financial position in mind, Irvine won't be strengthening his squad for the sake of it.

He continued by saying that he 'wouldn't try to get us to bring in somebody just for the sake of it. But if somebody comes along who will make us better, I'll ask the question [to the board]. If the answer is no, I'll understand that. If the answer is yes, then great.'

Irvine has also revealed that if he does want to bring someone in, someone has to leave Hillsborough first.

The Owls have just over a week to sort any transfer deals out before the close of the current window.

if theres a decent forward thinking midfielder, id take him. cant see there being much quality left on a free though. im happy with our defenders and fowards, not totally convinced with our midfield though, hopefully tommy miller can start to get some regular action.

defenders dezzy? thats where we are short probably need another cb we only have 3, or maybe a rb and use buxton /spurr as 4th cb. We could probably use a LW too but we've already got the best squad in the league so can't be too greegdy

we have 5 who can play there. purse, beevers, spurr, buxton and hinds. All a decent quality for league 1 and we have cover for left and right back, im pretty sure there isnt another league 1 team who can boast that. im not over concerned about another midfielder, jst be nice to have a bit more quality. sedgwick, teale, jj and jones can all play left mid, isnt that enough? all in all, im pleased with the squad, shame we didnt have this squad last season.

Well we've got 7 defenders could do with 8, and JJ Teale and sedg are right footed but yeah i'm probably being greedy, squad we have is good enough to be champions
